Art Update
Engineering And Design
The team is working towards our Beta release. Our objective is to finalize the core gameplay experience in this release. Beta is intended to be a miniature version of Treeverse, but the core feel and experience are intended to be “final”.
The team has been working on improving the crafting systems, gathering systems, the talent tree, and the new combat systems.
We’ve also had extensive designs and discussions regarding our new and improved quest systems and dialogue systems. Both of these are expected to come to completion within 2-3 months.
Engineering
Since the alpha finished, the entire engineering team has moved back to work on the development branch. We’ve merged all of our changes into it, and the latest branch includes the renovated Lorwick map as well as some of the dungeons. By the end of July, we should have the latest Kenryos and Calbree Forest which will comprise all the content we have planned for our Beta release.
Talent Tree work first pass is done and will be merged into development over the weekend
The skills panel system is done
The new inventory UI is finished and also ready to be merged
We’ve done the first pass of the charged ability implementation based on the new great sword mechanics
Converted tools for gathering into actual items with their stats for woodcutting, mining, fishing, etc
Done the basic backend functionality for adding emotes and stickers in the game
Start reworking the backend architecture to remove Redis as a dependency. Instead, we rely purely on the Postgres database
Started work on improving our Quests
Finished the requirements for new dialogue features
Fix the double-gathering bug
Started work on improving monster AI behavior
Going Forward
We’re very excited to continue working on our next release. Beta milestone is extremely important because it will solidify what Treeverse is really meant to be. These upcoming months are essential in finalizing the core gameplay loop, as well as important auxilliary systems to provide enhanced social interactions in game as well as the introduction of proper microtransactions.
By consolidating the progression mechanisms to the talent tree and introducing proficiency into the game, players can enjoy a clear and rewarding progression experience. We’re also excited to see how players get on with the improved combat, where each weapon is intended to really be unique and distinct, from the play style to the inputs and movement as well.
In the next version of Treeverse, players will unlock new abilities via the Talent tree, and be able to freely adjust them via the skills panel.
Skilling will have clear progression, allowing players to improve their resource gathering skills to get better resources, and turn those into more interesting items.
We have many more items in the next version as well for players to acquire and also looking forward to really cute and fun features like pets and mounts.
We’ve also made two additional hires on the engineering team as well as hiring a sound engineer to significantly help with increasing our development momentum and speed. Engineering has been a bottleneck for a while, but it was important to carefully hire, and I think our most recent hires can help us unlock this.
Future builds and reward programs will be much more exciting as the things to do in-game increase and core systems get better. LFG!
